What Is the EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL is a soft, flexible lens implanted between the iris and the eye’s natural lens, where it works continuously and invisibly to focus light correctly onto the retina. Similar to a contact lens, but one that lives inside the eye, and one you never insert, remove, clean, or replace.

The lens is made of Collamer, a proprietary material containing collagen that is designed to work with the eye. It is not visible to others, cannot be felt once in place, and provides built-in UV protection.

Unlike laser vision correction, the EVO ICL does not alter or remove corneal tissue. Because the lens can be removed or exchanged at any time, it is a full reversible procedure. It is an additive procedure rather than a subtractive one, which is a distinction that matters to many patients planning for decades of clear vision ahead.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

The EVO ICL is FDA approved for adults ages 21 to 60 with nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism. It is often an excellent option for people who:

What Happens During the EVO ICL Procedure?

The EVO ICL procedure is brief, typically 30 to 40 minutes, with both eyes performed on the same day in an outpatient facility with numbing drops and light sedation for comfort.

Through a small opening at the edge of the cornea, Dr. Singh gently inserts the folded lens, which unfolds and settles into position behind the iris. The lens design includes a central port that allows fluid to flow naturally within the eye, so no additional preparatory procedure is needed.

Most patients notice clearer vision that evening as the dilation wears off, and the majority return to normal activities within a day or two. There are no sutures in most cases, no stinging contact lens routines to resume, and no corneal flap to protect.

Recovery After EVO ICL

Recovery from the EVO ICL is typically fast and comfortable. You will rest briefly at the facility before going home, and you will need someone to drive you that day. You will be seen the following morning to confirm the lens is positioned well and the eye is healing as expected.

For the first week or so, you will use prescribed eye drops to support healing and prevent infection, and you should avoid rubbing your eyes, swimming, and strenuous activity. Mild light sensitivity, or a scratchy sensation are common in the first day or two and resolve quickly. Observing haloes and glare, particularly at nighttime, is common in the early post-operative period and typically improves in the following 1-2 months. Most patients return to work, driving, and everyday routines within a day or two.

Because the lens sits inside the eye, there is no daily maintenance once healing is complete. Routine eye exams are all that is required to confirm the lens remains well positioned and your eyes remain healthy.
